ARGENTINA TRICAMPIONE

Il 22° mondiale di calcio si è disputato nell’Emirato del Qatar dal 20 novembre al 18 dicembre 2022: è stata la prima volta nella storia che il torneo si è svolto in autunno inoltrato, il che ha causato la sospensione dei campionati maggiori nazionali di calcio di tutto il mondo. Questa scelta è maturata dalle elevatissime temperature del Qatar nel periodo estivo. Una preferenza insolita quella del paese ospitante, che ha suscitato svariate polemiche: vuoi per i sospetti di presunte corruzioni, vuoi per i cosiddetti “diritti negati” in Qatar e per la morte di molti lavoratori per la costruzione degli stadi, molti dei quali smontati a fine torneo. La nazionale italiana, campione d’Europa in carica, ha mancato per la seconda volta consecutiva l’accesso alle fasi finali di un mondiale. Nel corso del torneo altre grandi nazionali sono uscite anzitempo: la Germania e il Belgio al primo turno, la Spagna agli ottavi per mano del sorprendente Marocco, il favoritissimo Brasile ai quarti, perdendo ai rigori contro l’ormai solida realtà calcistica mondiale croata. Brasile, Francia, Argentina e Portogallo erano considerati alla vigilia superiori alle altre nazionali, soprattutto la Francia e il Brasile. Tra i quattro assi del cacio mondiale, che tutti attendevano fossero protagonisti, Cristiano Ronaldo (Portogallo) e un po’ Neymar (Brasile) hanno deluso, mentre Messi (Argentina) e Mbappé (Francia) non hanno sconfessato le attese. Il Marocco è stata la rivelazione del torneo, che col suo

gioco difensivistico e contropiedista ha estromesso Belgio, Spagna, Portogallo, prima di arrendersi alla Francia in semifinale, concludendo sotto la Croazia al quarto posto: la prima volta per una nazionale africana. Altre imprese le ha compiute il Giappone, battendo la Germania e la Spagna al primo turno. L’Argentina ha sofferto molto prima di arrivare in finale: si è riscattata dopo la battuta d’arresto all’esordio contro l’Arabia Saudita e ha rischiato di venire estromessa ai rigori contro l’Olanda nei quarti di finale. Messi è stato il grande trascinatore, coadiuvato dai vari Alvarez, Di Maria e dal giovane Enzo Fernandez; grande protagonista è stato altresì il portiere pararigori Emiliano Martinez. La Francia, che aveva altri grandi campioni infortunati, non ha mai avuto grandi problemi prima della finale: ha un po’ sofferto contro l’Inghilterra ai quarti, ma ciò è normale quando si affronta una grande del calcio europeo. I Vari Mbappé (capocannoniere del mondiale), Griezmann, Giroud non

hanno tradito le attese. Nella finale contro gli argentini i transalpini sembravano avere qualche possibilità in più di farcela, ma dopo una rocambolesca, emozionante e spettacolare gara (forse la più bella in assoluta tra le finali), tra domini assoluti prima di una squadra, poi dell’altra, tra cambi che hanno stravolto l’andamento della partita, tra clamorose occasioni mancate, il risultato finale dopo la fine dei tempi supplementari è stato di 3–3, con i soliti Messi e Mbappé protagonisti assoluti. I calci di rigori (per la terza volta nella storia una finale mondiale è stata decisa in quel modo) si sono conclusi 4-2 per gli argentini. Dopo 36 anni l’Argentina è così tornata nella vetta del calcio mondiale, laureandosi per la terza volta nella storia campione del mondo. Lionel Messi, al quale mancava solo queto titolo per chiudere una straordinaria carriera, è stato accostato a Maradona, il più forte calciatore argentino (forse anche del mondo) di tutti i tempi.
